Childhood Food Favorites: Meat Loaf Dinner

Everyone enjoys the convenience of crock pot cooking, yet not everyone knows just how versatile today's crock pot recipes are. You need not cook the same old beef stew or chicken soup to reap the rewards of slow cooking. These days, there is a world of fabulous crock pot recipes to choose from. Whether you prefer Italian or Greek, Chinese or Indonesian, you can find a great crock pot recipe!



Honey Corn Bread: 1 cup yellow corn meal; 3/4 cup unbleached flour; 4 tsp. baking powder; 3/4 tsp. salt; 2 eggs, beaten; 3/4 cup milk; 1/4 cup honey; 2 Tbsp. oil. Preheat oven to 425 degrees; oil an 8 inch square baking dish. Mix ingredients in a bowl using an electric mixer on low speed. Bake 15 minutes.

One meal I have never managed to make to my satisfaction is Hilachas. Literally called Rags, in many places in the US now we find a similar dish called Ropa Vieja, or Old Clothes. It is a stew made with a slow cooker roast beef joint that has been cooked and then shredded into strings, and thus the name. It is mixed into a sauce with a tomato base and usually served with rice and of course, tortillas.

Add the rest of the oil and saute the onions for five minutes. Add the oregano and garlic and saute for another minute. Add the tomatoes and bring the mixture to a simmer, mashing it with a fork or masher. Spoon half the mixture into the Slow Cooker.

To preserve more of the nutritional value of your vegetables don't cook them for too long. As you cook a vegetable, its nutrient content diminishes. Good techniques for quickly cooking vegetables are steaming and stir-frying. Slow Cooking has its place, but don't neglect the quicker techniques with their greater nutrition.

This place needs prep time, but offers you a real break on the day to day schedule. We do this specific about five or six times a year. We cook for a complete month a single time. Everything goes in the freezer. When we're done, you'll find 30 meals in the deep freeze. It takes 2 days slow roast beef get it most done, nevertheless for a month, evening meal is shared about 20 mins after we get back. If a calendar month seems too much to handle, start with doing meals to get a week or two. Each night then features easy dishes for dinner!

After you decide which of the many electric rice cookers you want you can start cooking. Of course you can begin by making nice, soft rice in your appliance, but try venturing out. There are many cookbooks available that will give you delicious recipes to make amazing meals in your cooker without ever having to get out a pot or pan. The great detail about rice cookers is that all of the vegetables you add to your meal will maintain their nutrition and stay crunchy. In some rice cookers you can cook stews, boil eggs, dips, macaroni and cheese and even strawberry pie glaze. The choices are limitless you just have to be daring enough to give it a try.
